Resin bound gives you a smooth, seamless surface with the look of loose gravel and none of the migration. Water drains straight through it, there are no joints for weeds to get into, and it stays where you put it.
It is also the surface where the installation matters most. Resin is unforgiving of a damp base, cold weather or a rushed mix, and the failures are visible for the life of the drive. We install across Woodford Green, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell and Wanstead.
What is a Resin Bound Patio?
Natural aggregate is mixed with a clear resin binder in a forced action mixer and trowelled out by hand onto a prepared base, usually to 15 or 18mm depending on whether it is taking foot traffic or vehicles. Every stone is coated, and the gaps between the stones stay open, which is what makes it permeable.
That is resin bound. It is worth knowing the difference from resin bonded, which is loose stone scattered onto a bed of resin. Bonded is cheaper, is not permeable, and sheds stone over time. If a quote is noticeably cheaper than the others, check which of the two you are being offered.

Our Process
1. Site survey We look at what is there, whether it can be overlaid or needs digging out, and how the drainage should work. Samples brought out so you can see the blends in your own light.
2. Quotation Written, with the costs broken down, stating the build-up and whether the finished system is permeable.
3. Groundwork Excavation, sub-base and binder course, or preparation and repair of the existing surface where we are overlaying.
4. Edging and detailing Edge restraints, thresholds and any channel drainage set in before the resin goes down.
5. Laying Mixed on site in batches and trowelled by hand, working wet edge to wet edge so there are no join lines.
6. Curing Walkable in around 6 to 12 hours, drivable in 24 to 48 depending on temperature. We will tell you the actual times on the day.
Common Questions
Can you lay it over my existing driveway? If the surface is sound and to the right falls, often yes, and it saves a good deal. If it is cracked or moving, no, because the cracks come through.
Is it slippery? The aggregate gives it texture, so it grips well. Like any surface it can go green in permanent shade, and a wash sorts that.
Will weeds grow through it? Not from below. Seeds occasionally take hold in debris on the surface and pull out easily.
Does it stain? It can. Oil and diesel are the ones to watch, and pale blends show marks more than dark. Cleaned reasonably promptly it is usually fine.
How long does it take? Most domestic drives are two to four days including the groundwork, with the resin itself going down in a single day.
Can it be repaired? Yes, sections can be cut out and relaid. Colour matching an older drive is not always perfect because aggregates weather.
How much does it cost? More than tarmac or gravel, comparable to good block paving. We quote in writing after a site visit.
