Our Brickwork Process
1. Site visit We look at the ground, the levels and what the wall is actually doing. For anything retaining ground, this is also where we work out whether it needs engineering input.
2. Quotation Written, with the costs broken down, including the footing depth and the brick we are proposing. On a period property we will tell you whether it needs lime mortar rather than cement.
3. Foundations Dug to depth and concreted. Depth depends on the height, the ground conditions and whether there are trees nearby, since clay shrinkage around roots is a real problem in this part of London.
4. Building Laid to line and level, with piers, movement joints and drainage built in as the wall goes up rather than added on afterwards. Anything retaining gets drainage stone, a membrane and weep holes behind it.
5. Finishing Coping or capping on, joints struck, brickwork cleaned down and waste taken away.
